Young, Black and Gifted - Louisiana Woman Returns Home to Promote Black College Experience

LaShanda Hurst traveled far from her Portland roots to attend Grambling State University in Louisiana, but she felt at home in an environment rich with African American history, culture and peers. Hurst, 34, spoke Saturday at Portland's 27th Black Colleges Conference. The program is a yearly outreach event for high schoolers interested in attending historically black colleges and universities.
