Young, Black and Gifted - Cleveland Actress Honors Nikki Giovanni With Performance

Actress Katrice Monee Headd has more than the usual nervousness about her upcoming portrayal of poet Nikki Giovanni. Giovanni herself will be in the audience Thursday, when Karamu Theatre presents the world premiere of "The Fire Inside: The Story and Poetry of Nikki Giovanni" as part of the 2007 Ingenuity Festival of Art and Technology.

"It's a great, great honor," said Headd, 27, who lives in Bedford. "I've never portrayed a [real] person, let alone a person who's alive." Read more from The Cleveland Plain Dealer.
